At eight months old, Walter is a teenager.  Walter is the bane of his elder brother’s existence.  Both he and Levi are Great Danes.

I don’t particularly like to spread stereotypes because they are often untrue and maligning.  However, I will say that Walter is the embodiment of every teenage stereotype there is….as long as we are talking about the negative stereotypes!

Here it goes:

 

Obstinate – You can yell NO till you are blue in the face.  If you use the old “squirt him in the face with water trick” he just blinks and licks his jowls.  He loves the taste of Bitter Apple.  Loud noises don’t phase him in the least.  If you slap his butt, it doesn’t even register.  The only thing that works is to get his nail clippers out.  He’ll back off then!  The nail clippers are his kryptonite.

Loud – If he doesn’t get his way, he will bark, and bark, and bark some more!  I have tried scolding.  I’ve tried ignoring.  The only thing that seems to work is to give Levi attention as soon as the barking starts.  Walter does not like that at all!  He wants to be the center of attention.

Eats us out of house and home – The boy can eat.  He will eat anything and everything. He’s a food magician.  Just like any teenage boy, he can make food disappear in an instant.

Fights for dominance – At eight months old, you wouldn’t think he would turn into a Tasmanian devil if Levi gets near his food bowl.  Oh, but he does!  He started challenging Levi from the time he was 2 months old.  Levi weighs at least 50 pounds more, but that doesn’t matter one bit.  Don’t even think about treats!  I now have to feed and give them treats separately.  He has the rebelliousness of a teenager like I have never seen.  Walter is going to be a force to be reckoned with!

Boisterous – You never have to wonder where Walter is.  He is always at the center of activity.  He’s a whirling dervish.  He’s the thunder and the lightning.  When he is trying to engage Levi in play he hops like a bunny on the floor, on the couch, and on us!  There is no limit to the energy of a teenager!

Besides all of that, he has the most obvious hallmark of an adolescent.  Much to my chagrin, Walter has acne!

      1. I’m sure he would. My youngest cat thinks he needs to pee everywhere in my house. Thank goodness I got rid of the carpet. He’s a menace to all living and non-living beings. The energy of a tiger.

          1. 18 years old? That’s a dream come true. I owned a stuffed calico cat when I was little haha. I love their names. I’ve never seen an all-black Siamese before. I have a brown one, Nadal and an orange cat, Djokovic. The youngest is my little devil, Sushi. Why does Lily think she’s a dog? Hahaha

            1. Siamese sometimes have black kittens because of a gene permutation that is undesirable. Often the black ones get sent to shelters and are often euthanized. For some reason, black cats in general have bad connotations so they are rarely adopted. The only reason I know Echo is a Siamese is due to his lithe figure and his distinctive voice. I don’t know why Lily thinks she’s a dog, but she is the only cat I’ve ever had that will come when called. Even from far away! She lets herself in and out of the dog door. If we go for a walk she follows us just like a dog. Crazy girl! I love the names of your cats, how did you come up with them?

              1. Black cats also have a terrible connation here. Such cruelty… I had never thought about my Siamese’s voice being different from my other cats before. Nice. Lily must be very active! Nadal and Djokovic were named after tennis players and I was headed to a Japanese restaurant when I found Sushi.

    Walter seems like the kinda pup one could watch and laugh all day and entertain themselves but he’s probably a lot of work for you.

    1. Oh yeah, he’s a troublemaker for sure. Today he ate a steel wool pad! I see another Walter W(retched) Food Choices post coming on!

      1. Yes do some on cats!!
        I had a kitten (Ginger) for a month. After that she went somewhere and we keep seeing her near the house but she never comes in. She was my first cat and now I’m confused about whether or not to keep another cat.

  6. First, great photo and Walter is adorable beyond belief!! Great post! I am a total mush bucket when it comes to pups! I was lucky to get my Max as a “grown up 🙂 but he is finally years and years later 100% at peace and feels safe, secure and trusts – he’s my 100% heart dog so ya had me a the photo! 🙂

    1. Aw thanks. He went to the vet today for a fresh round of antibiotics to clear up the acne a bit. It was getting worrisome on his chin. Isn’t it great to have wonderful dogs. Walter isn’t there yet, but my Levi is everything. My husband jokes that if it came down to him or Levi, I’d choose Levi. There are days…. 😉

  11. I have a 15 year old Himalayan. She is a sweet cat and quite the diva. She has us wrapped around her little paw and rules the household. She sleeps a lot and every now and then she gets the zoomies. She runs from one end of the room to the other flipping her stuffed mouse in the air. Then it is nibble and nap time.
